BDPA High School Computer Camp-Orientation 1/29

High School Computer Camp

We will have the 2011 Detroit HSCC Orientation on January 29, 2011! This program is a 6-month course (Saturdays) where high school students learn website application development. For the IT-savvy, that includes HTML, CSS, Javascript, Java, & SQL. They will also learn Basic Computer Knowledge, Time Management & Presentation Skills, & Teamwork. The students also have a chance to be selected to represent Detroit at the National BDPA Conference (http://www.bdpa.org) and compete against 20+ teams for awards & scholarships!

The top 5 teams are the awardees of scholarships ranging from $2500 per student to $500 per student. Our Detroit team has placed 3 times nationally in the top 5 in the last 4 years!

Today’s world demands that you not only have an online presence, but you also have an online app to help your company or service be found. Creating mobile apps is a brand new world for many, many developers and UX designers are just getting their hands around what is required to make it flow. Nick will show you how to use a chain of Adobe applications that you may already have such as Adobe Catalyst, Adobe Device Central, Adobe Photoshop, and Flash Builder to create beautiful, functional mobile applications that you can sell or promote at Android Marketplace.

Nick Kwiatkowski is a telecommunications engineer and manager in the Telecommunication Systems Department at Michigan State University. responsible for the Telephone and Cable TV networks on our campus (our department also handles the Fiber Optics, 2-Way Radios, Cellular and licensed Wireless on campus).He also runs the Michigan Flex Users Group and is an Adobe Certified Professional for Adobe Integrated Runtime for both desktop and mobile devices. Nick has spoken at several conferences including Flex Camp, 360/Flex and the Lansing day of dot net. He has also been a guest on several Flex and Cold Fusion podcasts.

Nick presented this talk as a workshop at the Michigan World Usability Day in Lansing.
